Ladies Who Film – Ep. 7 – Dec. 4, 2015

STAY IN YOUR LANE. Or, at least, learn how to do the thing you’re trying to get hired to do instead of the thing you actually do.

Listen, we all have dreams. I dream of making a film that gets critical acclaim, is screened numerous times per day in multiplexes around the world, makes tons of money that I actually get points on, and wins awards for being awesome.

But guess what? I understand that right now, I’m not experienced enough to helm that kind of massive project. So I won’t approach a major film studio telling them that, while I’m super good at the handful of things I do, I’m totally interested in using their multiple millions to learn how to do things I haven’t even seen yet, nonetheless done successfully.

For now, I’m going to stay in my lane as I learn more and become better at all the things that I do – and will do – as I get closer to being qualified to achieve my dream.

I have GOT to keep up with your blog/casts, my dearest love! You are a wealth of insight and I have so much to learn! This episode both reassured me as an artist and made me incredibly insecure about my set etiquette. With each new bullet point, my brain’s going “Uhuh, yeah…yep makes total sense….PSH whatever man….oh, Jesus fuck I do that all time….WHAT DO YOU MEAN SEVENTEEN PEOPLE??? ON A GOOD DAY I CAN BEAT 20!!!…fuck yeah, Spot the Kimmie champion over here….ohhh, how sweet! I swear, her ingenuity and awesomeness never ceases to amaze….wait- there are people who don’t want to be famous? What the fuck is that?? Life is NOTHING without legions of people who NEED to know what you look like without makeup on…thank fuck I put that demo album together…need to update my resume…”

Long story short- you’ve inspired me to take my 2 to a 10, and I am relieved as all get out to know that I have the essentials in place. I trust your wisdom implicitly, and I don’t know why I don’t listen to you all the time =)
